Would you like to contribute to NWO Biophysics 2024? You can do so by giving an oral or poster presentation about your research progress. The call for abstracts is now open, do not hesitate to submit your abstract!
Abstract submission and selection
You can submit your abstract for a poster or oral presentation via the NWO website. Abstracts can be max. 1500 characters. When submitting your abstract, you have to choose a theme that applies to your research, the six themes are described on the NWO website.
The programme committee will subsequently make a selection of the abstracts. In July, all authors will receive notice whether or not their abstract has been selected for an oral presentation.
The programme committee strives for a well-balanced and diverse programme with high quality talks. The following criteria will be taken into consideration during the selection of the abstracts:
If your abstract is not selected for an oral presentation, we will invite you for a poster presentation. The three best posters will be awarded a poster prize sponsored by the Society for Bio Physics and Biomedical Engineering. In addition, an audience poster award, sponsored by the Netherlands society for Microscopy, will be presented.
Please note that you have to register for the conference independently from your abstract submission. Registration for NWO Biophysics opens in June and will close 5 September 2024, 14.00 hours CEST.

NWO Biophysics is organised and sponsored by NWO Domain Science (ENW) in co-operation with the Netherlands Society for Microscopy, the Society for Biophysics and Biomedical Technology, and the Dutch Society for Cell Biology. Background
The thesis award is granted each year for the best PhD thesis in the area of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering.
Award
The award consists of a certificate and a prize of €2024 to be spent at the laureate's wish.
Judgment
The research will be judged on the basis of:
Candidacy
Candidates have obtained their PhD degree at a Dutch university, on research in the area of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering. The PhD ceremony must be between August 1, 2023, and August 1, 2024. The candidate, or his (co)–promotor, must be a member of the Society. The candidate is obliged to present his/her work at the Dutch Biophysics on October 7 and 8, 2024. A submission consists of a link to a pdf version of the thesis, to be sent by e-mail to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
In addition, the candidate must submit a motivation letter of at most 1 A4, describing why his/her work is important, and why it deserves this award. The list of candidates will not be made public.
Jury
The jury will be appointed by the board of the Society.
Time schedule
Candidates must submit their thesis before July 8, 2024. The winner will be notified before September 5th, 2024.
The award ceremony is planned to take place at the Dutch Biophysics conference, Veldhoven, NL, on Monday October 7th, 2024.

DutchBiophysics takes place on Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 October 2021 and is organised and sponsored by NWO Domain Science (ENW) in co-operation with the Netherlands Society for Microscopy, the Society for Biophysics and Biomedical Technology, and the Dutch Society of Cell Biology.
We aim to gather Dutch researchers working in the biophysics field. To do so in times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the format of the conference might change in line with measures taken by the government in the coming months. Whether it will be digital or live, the organisation will do its utmost to present to you an exciting programme with plenary sessions with invited presentations by (inter)national speakers, poster sessions and parallel sessions with oral presentations.

The yearly edition of the bio physics and bio medical engineering will be combined with the Veldhoven Meeting of NWO. The next edition of NWO Biophysics will take place on Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 October 2024
